BELEM - AN OASIS JUST TEN MINUTES FROM LISBON
On the banks of the Tagus River and just outside the central part of Lisbon, Belem is a great destination for an afternoon - or even a day- of relaxation away from the crowds.
Belem holds a number of national monuments including the Tower of Belem, the Monument to the Discoveries, the Jeronimos Monastery, as well as an unbeatable view of the 25 do Abril Bridge and the Cristo Rei statue on the other side. Belem also has a large number of museums of which the Coach Museum, Presidential Museum, the Museum of Electricity and the Cultural Center of Belem.
Belem covers a relatively small area and is an extremely enjoyable stroll. The main street, Rua de Belem, is flanked by impressive buildings from the 17th-18th centuries and houses the famous Pasteis de Belem (think delicious egg tarts). There is also a large park in front of the presidential palace and the Jeronimos Monastery - perfect for a quick nap on a sunny day.

Access to Belem is extremely easy as it is just 2 stops away by train - included on the Viva Viagem card.
